Dedicated team of eco-warriors
Across New Zealand our team of Health, Safety & Sustainability (HSS) Representatives lead, drive and implement OfficeMax's internal safety and sustainability programmes. Our Health and Safety management system is fully integrated, working towards an accident-free, hazards-controlled, physically and emotionally safe environment.
Highlights of these programmes include:
- Employees receive access to Tracksuit-Inc® for personalised holistic health resources, activities and goals, including fitness, diet, sleep, social connections and team competitions
- Flu vaccines or vouchers provided
- Mental health programme initiated, with the aim of creating a culture of acceptance and helpfulness
- We partnered with St John New Zealand to support our managers as they initiate conversations around the mental health of their teams
- Staff 'lunchbox talks' were held with experts from 0800 What's Up, the Barnardos helpline for young people that OfficeMax sponsors, to help our employees talk with their children about mental health issues
Managing risk better
We proactively identify hazards and risks in the workplace through our integration system. Our employees can raise hazards though our 'Find It Fit It' form or when an accident or incident has occurred. Our Health, Safety & Sustainability team find creative ways to make training engaging and as a result in 2018 there was a decline in the number of reported workplace incidents.
Audits and compliance
All of our sites participate in annual onsite Health, Safety & Sustainability audits where we identify gaps or areas of improvement. Our employees also complete online or in-person training programmes to review policies and legislation. OfficeMax keep active registers for legislation compliance and we participate in a number of external audits and have gained certifications for our systems.
